Today a customer called me that had purchased Norton System Works 2005 at Office Depot, and now a week later was getting error messages regarding “An unauthorized beta version” of his Symantec product.

In case there’s any question, I have to be sure I’m on record saying that “I absolutely, positively, do not recommend any of the Symantec products for any of my customers anymore, and I have not since early 2004″.

The 2004 vesions of Norton Antivirus and other Symantec Security products started making my life more difficult in early 2004, and subsequent versions of their software have not shown any improvement. They are resource hogging buggy pieces of “software”.

This includes Norton Personal Firewall, Spam prevention, or anything associated with Symantec with the sole exception of PC Anywhere.

The antivirus solution I strongly recommend is Nod 32, for excellent protection at a minimum memory usage.
