I post at SearchCommander.com now, and this post was published 18 years 3 months 5 days ago. This industry changes FAST, so blindly following the advice here *may not* be a good idea! If you're at all unsure, feel free to hit me up on Twitter and ask.

Today Google has unveiled a new interface / site / screen or whatever they’re calling it that is designed to give webmasters some resources all in one place. It’s called Webmaster Central.

I didn’t see anything brand new there at first, except a quick Google indexing check, so for the seasoned SEO or webmaster, I thought there was nothing new at first glance. However, a lot of familiar tools are now all in one place, which is noce, and as you dig in to each area, there are new features.
There are links there for Google sitemaps, Content Submission (including google Video Uploader and Google Base), a brand new Google Blog for Webmasters the Google discussion group for webmasters, and the webmaster help center. There’s even a Site Status wizard so you can find out whther or not your site is even being indexed by Google.

All in all, I have to give three cheers to Google for continuing to reach out to the “common webmaster” on a regular basis.

Let’s face it, SEO isn’t rocket science, but the more that webmasters and business owners have access to these tools and this type of knowledge, the better off we’ll all be when we’re looking for something we need to find on the internet.

*UPDATE* – see SEOMOZ for all the details about changes and improvements – Apparently Webmaster Central is replacing Google Sitemaps, and the more I’m in it, the more I like it. Now SEOMOZ has a great review.
