I still believe that the single most important ranking factor for organic search optimization is the title tag, and I was giving some SEO 101 lessons to my son who is 10 years old.
He’s had his own blog for a while now, because I didn’t want him playing around on those social media sites, and I wanted to have total control over what he sees and who any “friends” might be.
I was explaining how the title tag indicates to the search spiders whgat the subject of a page is, and that’s part of how it determines where to rank websites.
After a little bit of thought, he came up with a good title tag for his homepage, and I showed them how to change himself. Two days later, after the next Googlebot visit, his site ranks number one on Google for coolest kid in the universe.
I think I’ve created a monster…
*Note to Google – In the interest of full disclosure, my son did clean his room in exchange for this link –
coolest kid in the universe.
