I post at SearchCommander.com now, and this post was published 19 years 19 days ago. This industry changes FAST, so blindly following the advice here *may not* be a good idea! If you're at all unsure, feel free to hit me up on Twitter and ask.

When installing any scripts on your domain, you may get an error saying something like this –
“blahblah has detected that your config.inc.php file is not writeable by the server.”

FTP’d to it with your FTP software, right click, go to CHMOD and enable the needed check boxes for read, write and execute. Now it’s writable.

I use WTFTP but you can change CHMOD with any free FTP software.
