I post at SearchCommander.com now, and this post was published 19 years 1 month 22 days ago. This industry changes FAST, so blindly following the advice here *may not* be a good idea! If you're at all unsure, feel free to hit me up on Twitter and ask.

This morning I’ll be going to an office where one of my long time customers claims that on one workstation, they can print from Word, Excel and the web, but NOT from their email program.

There is no error message, it simply doesn’t print. They’ve already rebooted the PC, and power cycled the printer with no success. I’ll post the solution here after I find it…

***update***
Well, not only won’t it print in OE, but in Internet Explorer 6 either. Windows updates won’t load either. Then I couldn’t reinstall the windows update software. It just ignored me like the print jobs.

After nearly an hour of futzing, I decided to take it with me to reinstall Windows, because it’s Active X related. I tried multiple solutions before giving up. System restores, active x-reinstalls, registry hacks, everything but running System File Checker, which I’ll do before wiping.

Why am I sharing this boring info? Because it took me an hour to figure out that would have been faster reinstall Windows from the beginning.

I should add that this computer got screwed up by none other than Norton System Works.

If you like what you've seen here, would you please share this?
