I post at SearchCommander.com now, and this post was published 17 years 10 months 1 day ago. This industry changes FAST, so blindly following the advice here *may not* be a good idea! If you're at all unsure, feel free to hit me up on Twitter and ask.

I’m going to fill the speaker slot at next Tuesday’s Oregon Computer Consultants Association meeting, and I’ll likely hang around for questions indefinitely. Below, you’ll see the press release that I just* submitted at PR Web for just $10.

Yes, PR Web did not raise their price, contrary to what you may have read. They did however, change their profitability upward with one little site tweak that was quite smart….

They made $40 pre-fill in the contribution box. All the small business owner needs to do is overtype $10 where it says $40, and you’re in.

I’m on the board of the OCCA, and we have been stretching a bit for speakers lately, so I agreed to step up and make it interesting. Since I’ll be talking a bit about convesion rates and profitability, I thought the PR Web change was interesting to point out.

This talk may have a bit more geek speak than most SEO information you’ll run accross, but that’s likely only for the portion dealing with hosting. Hope you can come!

Search Engine Expert speaks at OCCA meeting

Internet marketing consultant Scott Hendison will present information about the search engines at the next Oregon Computer Consultants Association meeting.

In addition to SEO101 information, hosting and technical requirements will be addressed, as well as web site visitor behavior. This is what every computer consultant needs to know.

Tuesday, January 30 2007
7:00-8:30pm (no-host dinner at 6:00)
Rheinlander German Restaurant
5035 NE Sandy Blvd
Portland OR 97213

What are the basics of Search Engine Optimization? In the first part of the presentation, Scott will cover his own “Top Ten Fundamentals” of the search engines, explaining what every site must have, to be given a fighting chance in the search engines.

Then, what do you do after the basics are already in place? What should a site owner or web designer do? What can anyone do besides sit back and wait?

How about as a computer consultant or network administrator who keeps getting asked about client websites, back ends, installing content management systems, blogs, etc? What should you recommend? How can you be sure you’re in the proper hosting environment for your client needs?

Finally, what should a website REALLY look like? You may think it looks great, but is it turning visitors into clients? Are you turning people away the moment they arrive? Improving conversion rates on websites is often quite simple. Scott will summarize basic eye tracking studies and look at general visitor behavior as it relates to page layout.

If you are an IT service provider, a web designer, a computer consultant, or even just interested in the basic search engine marketing, this presentation is for you.

Scott Hendison is the CEO of Search Commander. He is a former Portland computer store operator that built a local on-site service business through Pay Per click and organic search engine optimization.

In 2003, he started specializing in search marketing, and today serves clients in 5 countries, who find him on the front page of most search engines for “internet consultant” and related phrases.

*Yes, the smart marketer would have released it over a week ago, but that’s not the point 😉
