I post at SearchCommander.com now, and this post was published 18 years 3 months 3 days ago. This industry changes FAST, so blindly following the advice here *may not* be a good idea! If you're at all unsure, feel free to hit me up on Twitter and ask.

This morning I gave the “two minute tip” at the east Portland chamber of commerce meeting, and I provided the following handout with a short presentation. a few of the members knew Google “did other stuff” but  were surprised that there was so much available for free!
Everyone knows Google has a great search engine, but did you know about…

Google SMS

At www.google.com/sms  you can find out more about Short Messaging Service –  Send a text message like “Cherrywood Village – Portland OR”  to 46645 and you’ll get back  address and phone information in under 30 seconds – faster and cheaper than 411

Google Blog

At www.blogger.com you can start a free blog, and have it up and running in under 10 minutes. I have step by step instructions here to get started- http://www.pdxtc.com/200511-blogs-for-dummies.php

Google Calendar

At www.google.com/calendar you can use a free online calendar, viewable from anywhere in the world, and you can even upload your own Microsoft Outlook events to share with others.

Google Photos

At www.picasa.google.com you can get free software called Picassa. that helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures on your PC. Every time you open Picasa, it automatically locates all your pictures (even ones you forgot you had) and sorts them into visual albums organized by date with folder names you will recognize

Google Pack

At www.pack.google.com, you can get one free software package with 13 different applications, including the photo organizer, a video player, Ad-Aware spyware prevention, 6 months of free Norton Antivirus, and a whole lot more?

These are my own top 5 picks for “other uses for Google”, but to see lots more options from Google, that you probably never even knew existed, visit http://www.google.com/intl/en/options/

If you like what you've seen here, would you please share this?
