My favorite spyware tool, Spybot, seems to be having consistent server problems, and has been for a couple of months. Now, tonight on the local news, KGW is running a story I with me recommending Spybot. Nice.
Well, to minimize the problems, just skip Spybot. Connection problems have been consistent since mid summer and continue to this day with other servers. But if you’re strong, then you can still do what I do – Spybot is good, and the “immunization” feature is nice.
After install, do not update through the little wizard. Skip it and get right to the program. Then, keep hitting the “check for updates” button BEFORE trying to download the updates until you see one of the two “SecurityWonks” servers. Those seem to be working. Sometimes some of the others do though. Stick with the USA and avoude Europe.
If it locks up on attempting to update from a server (and it will) then Ctrl – Alt- Del your way out of it and try again. If that makes no sense to you, just use Adaware and then Winpatrol.
Spybot can be downloaded here
I too am a fan of Spybot and lord only knows what is up with the downloads, but I’ve found a workaround. If you select the Safer Networking #1 Europe server from the dropdown list instead of the default See-Cure #1 Europe, it works fine.
Thought you might like to know.
you know, I’ve had trouble with ALL the servers at one time or another this past few weeks. Bud’s right though, it’s good stuff. Try ’em all until you find one that works!
